Life in the Sloth Lane: Slow Down and Smell the Hibiscus
by Lucy Cooke
I never knew sloths could be so cute until I started looking at the pictures in Lucy Cooke’s book: Life in the Sloth Lane: Slow Down and Smell the Hibiscus. Not only are they cute, but if humans slowed down like sloths, we would most definitely suffer less and be physically and emotionally healthier.
This book not only has adorable pictures on every page, but wonderful sayings. Here are a few:
“Wait. Be Patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come.” –Robert Schuller
“If you see someone without a smile, give’em yours.” –Dolly Parton
Live in the Moment: Sloths are found only in the jungles of Central and South America–the land of the siesta and home of the hammock. Could this be a coincidence? Most sloths appear to spend about 60% of their time resting–either asleep or in a waking meditative state–so perhaps not.
“Wherever you go, there you are.”– Jon Kabat-Zinn
“Don’t worry about a thing.”– Bob Marley
“Our life is frittered away in detail…Simplify, Simplify.”– Henry David Thoreau
“Be Here and now and savor the delight of the present moment.”– Deepak Chopra
I use these sayings as writing prompts or to meditate on. It’s a great book to have around as a reminder and to make you smile. It also makes a great gift to reminder the people in your life to slow down.
